Play Ball!

by on April 6, 2010

Baseball season is here! It is a long-standing tradition of American baseball to have the President of the United States throw out the first ball. President William Howard Taft started the American tradition in 1910 at Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C., by throwing the ceremonial first pitch on Opening Day. This photo shows an enthusiastic President Hoover as he throws out the first ball of the season between the Washington Senators and the Boston Red Sox in April of 1930.

I had a great time with Bryant Elementary Group D. Considering the time, at the end of a long day, the group was the most attentive I have had. I could sense the compassion they held for the suffering of the children affected by WW I. I believe they will keep this catastrophe in mind. When they get older I know they will want to help others. Thanks. I hope to see the entire group again. Bill P
