The push for declassification is welcome and overdue. But the continued secrecy around CIA records related Howard Hunt, David Phillips, William K. Harvey, David Morales, George Joannides and other CIA officers with knowledge of the events leading to JFK's assassination is deplorable. Such secrecy invites suspicion, cynicism and conspiracy theories that the National Declassification Center was created to dispell. The NDC should address this issue in time for the 50th anniversary of JFK's death.

Exciting news regarding the new disclosures! I'm particularly interested in the Air Force base records and whether or not some of the more spectacular claims of "top secret" craft or programs may be verified by the documents newly released. Encouraging!

Curtis Lemay stands out as one of the few great military leaders that truly understood war and what was required to prevail. While some may consider his strategies and tactics excessive, over-the-top or even inhumane, the bottom line is he like Grant, Sherman and Patton understood that to win in war and prevail as a society and miminize the impact to our way of life, we should go all-out, and take the war to the enemy to the maximum amount of our capabilities. We should be thankful for this type of leadership for in war only the strong both physically and mentally can survive.

No; there are actually 27 pages in all. Unfortunately I was unable to scan all the pages due to space. However, the entire 6 boxes are now declassified so you can request to view them from the Research services section of the National Archives.

Thanks for the additional descriptive information. Of course, the greater level of archival processing, the easier the information is to discover.

USAF Project 1794 is just one of many subjects documented in this collection: Research and Development Project Files (1952-1969). There are files related to design, flight and other tests of experimental aircraft - of which the X-15 and the Avrocar are just two examples. Another subject represented in the series is weapon systems, including guided and ballistic missiles. There are a total of 100 record cartons in this series. All have been declassified and are now available to the public. Unfortunately, resources are limited preventing a more detailed description of the contents at this time.
