Today we’ve released our Open Government Plan (PDF) on our website.  We developed this plan with your thoughtful ideas and now we’re asking for your help again.  Read our plan and let us know what we need to improve and your ideas for how we can implement the plan.  Visit our Open Government Idea Forum to participate in the conversation.

Hear what the Archivist has to say about transparency, participation, and collaboration at the National Archives on his blog, “AOTUS: Collector in Chief.”

I posted this in the OG Idea Forum, but bears repeating:

The first thing you need to do is drop the term “AOTUS: Collector in Chief.” NARA does not “collect” records–it accessions them.

As you may have noted, the phrase “Collector in Chief” was the headline of the recent profile of Ferriero in the New York Times ( I agree that the title seems to be a missed opportunity to communicate a clearer message about the mission of the National Archives. (And, personally, I’ve never been a fan of jargon like “AOTUS”.)

Kate, thanks. So noted. I’ve been trying to come up with a suitable replacement and recall titles used in Australia and the UK. How about “Keeper in Chief” ?
