Tag It Tuesday! Remembering Pearl Harbor

by on December 6, 2011

Tomorrow marks the 70th anniversary of what President Franklin Roosevelt proclaimed  “a date which will live in infamy,” the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese Navy.  Thousands of American naval personnel were killed or wounded and U.S. ships and aircraft were sunk or damaged.  As a result of the attack, the U.S. declared war on Japan and entered World War II.

The National Archives has many digitized records relating to the Pearl Harbor attack in our catalog.  We invite you to tag them today.

Here are a few images to help get you started:

"This is Not a Drill" Dispatch, 12/07/1941

Photograph of the capsized USS Oklahoma and a slightly damaged USS Maryland, 12/07/1941

Senate Joint Resolution 116, Declaring War Against Japan, 12/08/1941

If you have any suggestions for Tag It Tuesday, please leave us a comment or email us at search@nara.gov.
