1940 Census Release Workshop Schedule

Just one week until the 1940 Census Release! We know you’ve been counting down (so have we!), and some of you may still be wondering how best to use these records once they are available.

The National Archives will host a series of workshops during the first week of the 1940 Census release, April 2 – April 6.  If you’re in Washington, DC, stop by and get some tips to help you navigate these exciting records. Here is the workshop schedule:

Monday

April 2

9:00 am: 1940 Census opens online at 1940Census.archives.gov
10:00 am: Tips for Searching the 1940 Census
2:00 pm: Tips for Searching the 1940 Census

Tuesday

April 3

10:00 am: Tips for Searching the 1940 Census
2:00 pm: Tips for Searching the 1940 Census

Wednesday

April 4

10:00 am: Tips for Searching the 1940 Census
11:00 am: Introduction to Genealogy, Civil Records
2:00 pm: Tips for Searching the 1940 Census

Thursday

April 5

10:00 am: Tips for Searching the 1940 Census
2:00 pm: Tips for Searching the 1940 Census

Friday

April 6

10:00 am: Tips for Searching the 1940 Census
2:00 pm: Tips for Searching the 1940 Census

 

*All lectures will take place in Room G-25, at the National Archives Building in Washington, DC.

*Each session of “Tips for Searching the 1940 Census” will last approximately 30 minutes.

Some folks might also be interested in a workshop that will be taking place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on April 10th. Entitled, The 1940 Census as Digital Data, the all day workshop will feature NARA’s own, Connie Potter, and NARA’s Applied Research Partners, Richard Marciano and Kenton McHenry. this archive for 1940 is totally screwed up. Several notations are repeats and all different years. Whoever composed this site didn’t care if it were accurate!
